Daniel Anthonisen is the next chapter in the Bucks County landscape tradition. Like many of the region's painters, nature is his studio. His home in Pt. Pleasant provides easy access to the Tohickon Creek and the Delaware River, subjects that figure prominently in his paintings. He has created his own easel and waterproof storage to work in the middle of the river which allows him to work on a number of paintings in one sitting. Whether creating an oil painting, a pencil sketch, or a pen and ink drawing, you can find him working en plein air, skillfully capturing the energy of his surrounds.
Daniel Anthonisen is the second generation of a talented family. Born in New York City in 1970, Daniel F. Anthonisen moved to Bucks County, PA when he was fifteen months old. As a child, he was free to work in his father's sculpture studio, and joined the family after dinner for drawing sessions, or leafing through art books. Surrounded by art, Daniel absorbed the vocabulary of his family. He follows in the family tradition as an award-winning artist, having won national competitions since the age of 18.
For Daniel Anthonisen, the Delaware River has always been a part in his life. Fishing with his father, playing by the river with friends through grade school, having a picnic and enjoying the sunset, his fascination with the river and water never wavered. "I am intrigued with the familiar æ the way things come out of the ground, the moving water, the unpredictable patterns of leaves and rocks and how it's all woven together and changing at the same time."
Anthonisen earned his BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. His work has been exhibited at the Salmagundi Club in New York, Muhlenberg College, the James A. Michener Art Museum, Bianco Gallery, and Bucks County Community College. His work is represented in private collections throughout the country. In 2000, The James A. Michener Art Museum purchased his work for their permanent collection. In 2002, he was awarded a grant from The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Anthonisen lives in Point Pleasant, PA.
